10:25

Wednesday, October 8, 2008

Souvenir of Doha, Qatar — this is what I saw in a flash, looking up from fumbling my bag while inside the jeepney. Those were written at the butt of another jeepney to our right, and I was thinking, it’s a sign. Of all things I could’ve glanced at.

At a certain point probably two or three years ago, I’ve been fascinated with why most of the time I glanced at my clock, the time was 10:25. I swear, it happened a couple of times in a series of days. Since then I’ve associated it with the date October 25; and been anticipating that day for something unusual or momentous to occur. I forget now what happened on that date the past years since this queer obsession.

The funny thing is, our mind plays tricks on us, or rather, because we need our brain to understand it–the brain and its mental processes–somewhere something goes haywire. [Someone with a Ph.D. is laughing condescendingly right now]. This leaves us with an alternate, and more probable explanation: coincidence.

It was just mere coincidence that I read Qatar printed on a jeepney. It struck me only because I plan to work in Qatar, it’s been in my head for weeks now.

The 10:25 thing happened maybe twice at first, and of course, the succeeding times are associated with that. A pattern, accidentally, is formed. Who’s to know the same exact thing is happening to the time 02:30, only, my mind ignores it because I have not established a fascination for it?

It’s silly. I can’t seem to dismiss them as mere coincidences. Today is 10/08 and 10/25 is coming in two weeks. It’s a Saturday.

Only one of two things can happen: something will, or nothing would.

(And I shit you not, just now as I was writing this, I glanced at my desk phone and the time was 10:25).
